Akwasidae Festival in Kumasi

We leave Accra at 7PM from Afrikiko, Kanda, Accra. You will meet your Travel Host and fellow travelers before taking of.

We will start the morning with a well deserved lunch, and then it's time for our Twi/history/culture class to learn a bit more about the Ashanti region and the festival we will visit tomorrow.

Then will take a guided tour around the Ashanti Village to learn about the NGO, the market place and the daily life in Banko.

After having lunch we will drive about half an hour to the Adinkra Symbols Village. You will learn about the symbols and their meanings. For an extra costs you can choose your symbol and stamp them on a fabric to take home as a memory.

We will continue to the Kente Weaving Village where you will learn about the famous and traditional Kente Weaving. You will also take a short tour on a cocoa farm and taste the delicious cocoa fruit.

Food is ready! A BBQ at our hostel in Banko is waiting for us. You can spend the evening at their lovely terrace, or go to bed early: we are not done with Ashanti Region yet!

After breakfast we say goodbye to the hostel and drive to the big city. We will first visit one museum, before heading to the Manhyia Palace.

We will take a tour of the palace and be part of the Akwasidae celebrations. An experienced tour guide will join us to explain what exactly is happening. Save all your questions for him!

Our last visit in Kumasi is to a hostel providing sewing classes and more to women. We will enjoy an early dinner before driving back to Accra. Late evening we will arrive home again.
