The Potluck in the Park began with a simple idea: to bring people together. In a city that moves fast, we wanted to create a moment to slow down. To share food, meet new people, and enjoy nature in good company. Over time, it’s become much more than a picnic.
This is why we organize our monthly potluck. Get your ticket in advance so we can plan well.
Bringing our community together
At its heart, the potluck is about bringing people together. Accra can be busy and spread out, and it’s not always easy to meet new people outside of work or study. The potluck gives everyone a chance to slow down, sit under the trees, and talk. You bring something small to share (a homemade dish or your favorite snack) and you end up sharing stories, too. Conversations flow easily when there’s food on the table and music in the background.
If you are having some busy times and can’t join our Language Cafés, you can still see you friends from the community at our potluck.
Meeting new people
Every potluck is different because the people who come are different. We see familiar faces each month, but also plenty of newcomers. We have travellers passing through, Ghanaians looking for something new, and people who just want to spend a peaceful afternoon outdoors. The mix is what makes it special. You might end up meeting your next travel buddy, business partner, or just someone with a story that stays with you.
You don’t have to attend our programs or trips before you join the potluck. This program can be the first program you visit of ours.
Meet us before booking a tour
For those curious about our tours and events, the potluck is a relaxed way to meet us in person before booking. You can ask questions, get a feel for our vibe, and meet some of the people who’ve already joined a trip. There’s no pressure, no sales talk, just genuine conversations over shared food. We want people to travel with us not just for the destinations, but for the community and values behind what we do.
Supporting a green space
We also organize the potluck to give something back to the city by using and supporting a green space. Accra’s parks are hard to find. By gathering at one regularly, we help make the park more lively and visible, showing that public spaces matter and should be cared for. We encourage everyone to leave the place cleaner than we found it, creating a small but real ripple of care for the environment.
Building a stable community
Consistency matters. By growing a stable and committed community around the potluck, we can attract sponsors who help lower the entrance fee and make the event more accessible to all. A steady turnout also shows that this gathering adds value. It connects people, supports local initiatives, and keeps public spaces alive.
If you or your (small) business are interested in supporting this event (whether through a one-time contribution, a partial sponsorship, or ongoing monthly support), we’d love to hear from you!
More than a Sunday afternoon
When you come to the Potluck in the Park, you’re not just spending a Sunday afternoon. You’re helping shape a community space that welcomes everyone. Bring your favourite dish, your picnic blanket, and your good energy. Together, we’re building something simple but powerful: connection, one shared meal at a time.
You can join us every last Sunday of the month for the Potluck in the Park. We truly appreciate it when guests purchase their tickets in advance, as it helps us know how many people to expect and plan properly. If presales fall below expectations, we might have to cancel the event. We believe this gathering is something unique and much needed in Accra: a monthly, open community event for everyone.
Kids are welcome for free. The park is spacious, with plenty of room for football, frisbee, or simply running around in the shade. Families are also welcome to use the opportunity to enjoy the park itself (since it’s not normally open to the public) and can keep a little distance from the main group if they prefer. No worries at all, it’s all about feeling comfortable and enjoying the day your own way.
