10 reasons to join our Kumasi & Ashanti Weekend

Learn Twi and discover Ghana’s cultural heart

When you travel to Ghana, you quickly realize that the country is more than beaches and nightlife. It’s a place where language, history, and community shape every conversation. And there’s no better place to experience that than in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, the cultural heartbeat of Ghana.

Our Kumasi & Ashanti Weekend is a two-day (two-nights) trip designed for travellers who want more than sightseeing. It’s a mix of language immersion, cultural learning, and community connection. Here are ten reasons why you should join.

1. Practice Twi in the place where it’s most alive

Kumasi is the home of the Twi language. From the market to the taxi driver to the hotel staff. Everyone speaks it with pride. It’s the perfect environment to put your lessons into practice and gain real confidence.

2. Experience genuine Ghanaian hospitality

Ashanti culture is famous for its warmth and generosity. It’s amazing when visitors try a few Twi phrases, and the people we will meet are glad help you improve them. By the end of the weekend, you’ll have made real connections, not just memories.

3. Visit the Manhyia Palace and understand living history

You’ll step into the world of Ashanti kings and queens at the Manhyia Palace Museum, where the stories of bravery, unity, and tradition come to life. It’s not just a museum. It’s a living part of Ghana’s royal heritage.

4. Learn the stories behind Kente and Adinkra

You’ll see how Kente cloth is woven and Adinkra symbols are stamped, each carrying deep meaning about life and wisdom. These crafts are cultural messages passed through generations. And of course we can ask about the Twi meanings of all the symbols.

5. Explore Kejetia Market – a huge market

Get ready for color, rhythm, and friendly chaos! We will help you navigate the energy of Kejetia Market, where you can practice your Twi numbers and greetings while shopping for spices, fabrics, and handmade goods.

6. Enjoy a comfortable, social weekend

You’ll travel with a group of friendly travellers who share the same curiosity about Ghanaian culture. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and full of laughter. No previous Twi experience needed. But of course you can join our Twi Cafés before you get on this trip!

7. Food experiences

Our food will be a mix of local and intercontinental dishes. If you have allergies or food preferences no problem. We will fix that for you.

One evening we even have a delicious BBQ.

8. Support local communities

Our trips are built around collaboration with local guides, artisans, and language helpers. When you join, you directly support small Ghanaian businesses and cultural initiatives.

Our hostel is part of Banko Women Organization, and on Saturday we will have lunch at TUMI Hostel. Both hostels are supporting women in their community by providing education and other knowledge.

9. Learn cultural etiquette and daily expressions

Beyond words, you’ll learn how to greet elders, show respect, and navigate social interactions. Things that make your whole stay in Ghana smoother and more meaningful. And remember: not in a class room setting! We will immediately put things in practice.

10. Return with more than souvenirs

By the end of the weekend, you’ll have more than photos. You’ll have a deeper understanding of Ghana, a few new friends, and the confidence to use Twi wherever you go.
