How to join our potluck (even if you’re not a great cook)

Not everyone loves cooking, and that is perfectly fine. The beauty of a potluck is that it is not about showing off recipes or creating perfect dishes. It is about showing up, with food to share if you can, with a helping hand if you prefer, or simply with an open heart.

Our Potluck in the Park on Sunday, 26 October is built on that simple idea. We gather under the trees for an easy afternoon of food, laughter, and community. Some people bring home-cooked meals, others stop by the market for snacks or fruit, and some just come with a blanket and help set up the tables. Every small effort adds something to the day.

Everyone can contribute

If you are not a confident cook, do not let that stop you from joining. You can bring something simple and fresh such as a loaf of bread, plantain chips, a salad, or a bunch of bananas. Drinks are always appreciated too. You might even share something from your culture, a small taste of home, or a story behind a favorite food.

And if you really do not want to bring food, that is okay as well. Offer to help serve, clean up, or play with the kids while others prepare. Community meals work best when everyone gives what they can.

A relaxed and welcoming space

The park gives us plenty of space to spread out, talk, and enjoy the shade. There will be open areas for games and quiet corners for conversation. Families are welcome, kids join for free, and there is always something for them to do, whether running, drawing, or chasing a ball across the grass.

We keep things simple. No one is judging your cooking skills or what you bring. What matters is that you come, take part, and enjoy a few hours of connection away from busy routines.

More than food

Our potluck is also a reminder that sharing food can build bridges. Each dish represents a story, a culture, or a moment of care. Sitting together, tasting new flavors, and talking about everyday life helps us get to know one another beyond small talk. It turns strangers into friends and reminds us how powerful small community gatherings can be.

Join us this Sunday

So if you have been hesitating because you are not a cook, take this as your sign to join anyway. Bring something small, bring a drink, or just bring yourself. The point is to show up.

We will meet in the park on Sunday, 26 October from 1 PM. Find a shady spot, lay out your picnic blanket, and join the shared table.

Come as you are, bring what you can, and let the afternoon unfold naturally. You will leave with a full heart, a few new connections, and maybe even a new favorite dish, no recipe required.

Tickets and How to Join

Entry to the Potluck in the Park is free for kids and open to everyone. Adults can get their ticket online in advance to help us plan seating, food, and shared materials. If you are able, consider choosing a supportive ticket to help us cover costs and invite more community members. Every ticket helps keep this event welcoming, sustainable, and full of good food and connection.
