As we approach the end of the year, we’re thrilled to share some exciting news for our final Just Read Book Club meeting of 2025. On December 21, we’ll be closing the year with a special session featuring guest speaker Barbara van Rijn Tuwor.
Just Read Book Club was created to provide a calm, restorative pause in the midst of Accra’s December chaos. Our goal is simple: to carve out a quiet moment for reading in silence, allowing members to slow down, reflect, and enjoy a peaceful activity in the busiest month of the year. In the spirit of this mission, our December meeting will offer one last opportunity in 2025 to relax, read, and connect with fellow book lovers.
At our book club you bring your own (e)book to read, and we all read our books at the same time. No homework, no pressure, no discussion.
Barbara will be joining us at the end of the meeting to share her writing journey and read a short excerpt from her upcoming novel. Her book, which will be published in both Dutch and English, tells the story of a young girl growing up in Ghana. It’s a heartfelt narrative that explores identity, resilience, and the small but powerful moments that shape a life. Hearing Barbara speak about her process (and getting a glimpse into her novel) promises to be a meaningful and memorable experience for our community.
She is currently in the process of self-publishing the book and has launched a crowdfunding campaign to bring it to life. You can learn more about the project, and preorder a copy here (scroll down for the English version). Every contribution helps move the book one step closer to print.
If you have questions for Barbara, e-mail to hello@languagecafeghana.com or add them to the suggestion box when you register.
Join us for this inspiring, calming, and book-filled final meeting of 2025
