Twi Café this week: Music, Dance & Nightlife in Accra

This Friday, 28 November 2025, Language Café Accra dives into one of the most exciting parts of Ghanaian culture: music, dance, and the vibrant nightlife scene. Whether you’re new in town, curious about Ghanaian rhythms, or simply looking for a fun way to learn Twi, this week’s session will help you understand how Accra moves when the sun goes down.

From traditional drum patterns to modern Afrobeats, from local pubs to live-band. Accra’s nightlife is a beautiful mix of sound, rhythm, culture, and community. And we’ll explore all of it together.

What will you learn this week?

During this interactive session, we will explore both the traditional and modern sides of Ghanaian music.

You’ll get an introduction to traditional genres such as Adowa and Kete. We’ll then move into modern genres like Highlife, Hiplife, Azonto, and Afrobeats, Gospel, and Reggae/Dancehall, along with the artists who shaped them.

To make it easy to step into nightlife with confidence, we will learn practical Twi phrases such as:

Mepɛ dwom yi – I like this song
Bɔ dwom bio – Play the song again
Yɛntɔ nsa – Let’s buy drinks
Ɛyɛ dɛ paa! – This is very nice!

We’ll also learn and sing “Sansa Kroma,” a classic Ghanaian children’s song with a strong rhythm and a fun call-and-response style.

What else?

Like every week we will give you more than just the Twi words. We will also give you some tips and tricks for going out in Accra, including some of our favourite places.

All our Twi Cafés are also an exchange of cultures, and our experiences of living in Accra/Ghana. Feel free to share your story!
