Language Hangouts

Language Hangouts are relaxed social meetups where language learning happens naturally while doing something enjoyable together. Instead of only meeting to talk, the idea is to create opportunities to practice languages in real-life situations while sharing activities and experiences with others.

A hangout might be as simple as meeting for a drink, visiting a museum together, or taking part in a workshop. The goal is to create a welcoming space where people can connect, speak different languages, and enjoy the moment while learning from one another.

Different types of Hangouts

Some Language Hangouts will focus on one specific language, which can be helpful for those who want to practice that language more intensively.

Other hangouts will be open to all languages, creating a multilingual environment where participants can interact freely and switch between languages as conversations naturally evolve.

How it works

Language Hangouts are designed to be simple, social, and self-organized.

  • Language Café Accra selects the date, time, activity, and venue.
  • Participants sign up for the hangout they want to join.
  • One participant can choose to be the Hangout Leader for that event.
  • Everyone who signs up will be connected to each other, and the meetup takes place in a relaxed, self-organized way.

Unlike our Language Cafés and Book Club, there will not be a Language Café representative present. The group simply meets and enjoys the activity together.

Participation
  • Paid members can join Language Hangouts free of charge.
  • Participants only cover their own personal expenses, such as entrance tickets, workshop fees, drinks, or food.
  • Non-members are also welcome and can participate by paying a small organization fee to Language Café Accra, in addition to their personal expenses.

The agenda for Language Hangouts will be shared soon.
